aivancity’s Civic Engagement Programme forms part of a holistic educational approach, combining academic knowledge with practical action on the ground. The programme is divided into two phases:
- Phase 1: Inspiration – Students undertake a MOOC on civic engagement, accompanied by themed lectures on social inequalities, discrimination and responsible digital technology. This phase aims to raise their awareness of major societal challenges and prepare them for their future engagement.
- Phase 2: Taking Action – Each student undertakes a voluntary placement with a public-interest organisation. These placements, lasting a minimum of 30 hours, take place between January and April, with the possibility of extension for subsequent cohorts.
A concrete and measurable commitment
The mid-term figures from February 2025 illustrate the programme’s success and the students’ commitment:
- 90 per cent of students enrolled in a placement
- 78 per cent of students have already started their placement
- 89 per cent of students consider their experience to be positive
- 60% are beginning to identify the skills they have acquired
Among the projects carried out, some involve supporting vulnerable groups, tackling the digital divide, or running awareness-raising workshops. Feedback and outlook
Students have expressed great enthusiasm for their involvement. Many of them say they have discovered a new aspect of social engagement and acquired valuable skills, both in communication and in collaborative working.
To ensure the programme’s long-term sustainability and maximise its impact, aivancity plans to:
- To extend the programme to other year groups
- To organise a hackathon involving secondary school and university students on the themes of AI and responsible digital technology
- To strengthen the support and monitoring of projects
aivancity: a school committed to a responsible future
By fully integrating civic engagement into its educational model, aivancity does not merely train experts in artificial intelligence and digital transformation. It shapes responsible citizens who are aware of societal challenges and ready to take action for a fairer and more inclusive world. This programme perfectly illustrates aivancity’s ambition as a mission-driven organisation: to combine academic excellence with positive social impact.
