Why Now

The law isn't going away. It's evolving.

Legal professions are undergoing a paradoxical transformation. AI is gradually automating some of the tasks that used to be the first experiences of young lawyers: document research, monitoring, contract review, clause comparison, case law summarization, and due diligence.

At the same time, organizations have never had a greater need for legal expertise to oversee the technologies they deploy. As data, generative AI, autonomous agents, and foundation models become integrated into business processes, the questions keep multiplying.

The questions that are emerging:

  • What data can be used?
  • Which systems can be deployed, and under what conditions?
  • Who is responsible? What risks need to be managed?
  • How can we demonstrate compliance?
  • When should humans take back control?
  • Even if the law allows it, should we really do it?

Governing AI isn't just about reading regulations. It requires understanding how the system is built.

The legal market is shifting on two fronts

AI is automating part of the legal work at the very moment its governance is becoming a market.

41%

of law firms and 47% of corporate legal departments are already using generative AI by 2026. Applications include: document review, legal research, summarization, and drafting memos and contracts.

Thomson Reuters, AI in Professional Services Report 2026

80%

of legal professionals believe that AI will have a significant or transformational impact on their work within the next five years. AI tools could already save them nearly 240 hours per year.

Thomson Reuters, Future of Professionals / Legal AI 2026

−7.5%

of entry-level hires at major U.S. law firms in 2025. This is the first decline recorded in more than a decade.

NALP / Reuters, 2026

77%

of organizations are already working to establish AI governance (nearly 90% among those that already use AI). Only 1.5% do not anticipate any additional needs within the next twelve months.

The law is not losing its importance. Value is shifting toward those who know how to govern technology.

"The paradox is historic: AI is automating some entry-level legal tasks at the very moment when the explosion of regulations is creating new needs in governance, risk, and compliance. Those who can bridge the gap between law, technology, and accountability will not be left behind by this transformation—they will become its most sought-after players."

Positioning

You cannot govern what you do not understand.

The MSc program is designed for graduates with a master's degree (Bac+5) in law or a legal specialization, as well as professionals seeking to develop advanced expertise in the governance challenges of AI and data. Its goal is not to retrain them in law.

Nor is it intended for data scientists or AI engineers.

Nor is it intended for lawyers who are forced to view technology as a black box. The program provides them with the technical understanding needed to engage with data and AI teams, analyze architectures, identify risks, evaluate technology choices, and audit the systems they will be responsible for governing.

Upon completion of the program

What graduates will be able to do upon completing the program.

  • Understand the continuum: Data → ML → Generative AI → RAG → agents → agent-based systems.
  • Qualify systems, data, stakeholders, and use cases to identify applicable obligations.
  • Govern data and AI systems: responsibilities, policies, controls, and human oversight.
  • Evaluate legal, technological, ethical, reputational, human, and sovereignty risks.
  • Audit and monitor an AI system: architecture, data, models, agents, logs, and monitoring.
  • Use and build with AI to enhance legal practices and compliance.
  • Balance innovation, performance, fundamental rights, ethics, trust, and accountability.

RNCP Level 7 Competency Block BC01: Identify and define the challenges and impacts of various applications of artificial intelligence Part of the Artificial Intelligence Solutions Development Project Manager certification · RNCP 38584 · Certifying Body: aivancity

This competency block certifies, in particular, the ability to analyze the challenges and impacts of AI applications, identify risks, integrate data protection considerations, and contribute to data governance and quality.

Law + Technology + Risk + Ethics + Governance

Law remains the foundation. Technology helps us understand what we are regulating. Governance transforms rules into trust.

Six competencies + discernment

Understand → Qualify → Govern → Evaluate → Audit → Transform

Understand

Understand technology well enough to govern it.

How data, models, tools, and agents interact, where dependencies lie, and how risks arise.

Qualify

Transform a technology or use case into a legal issue.

Identify what a system actually is, what data it uses, and which legal regimes apply to it.

Govern

Translate rules into organizational structures, responsibilities, and controls.

Determine who can do what, using which technology and data, under what conditions, and with what evidence.

Evaluate

Identify not only the risks but also the ethical limits of a system.

Knowing how to answer two distinct questions: "Can we do it?" and "Should we do it?"

Audit

Move from claimed compliance to demonstrated compliance.

Understand what a system does, what data it uses, and when humans must take over. Become a technologically competent GRC auditor.

Transform

Make AI a new tool for legal and compliance professionals.

How can we reshape the legal function if lawyers and AI specialists worked together from the very beginning of the design process?

Discern

When technology becomes capable of producing a response, a recommendation, or an action, the value of the legal professional shifts to their ability to assess its legality, relevance, and acceptability.

Question Interpret Challenge Arbitrate Decide Assume

Understanding technology without relinquishing the law, judgment, or responsibility to it.
