The Learning Trip

Understanding the Indian technology ecosystem
from the inside

An academic cooperation programme combining lectures, research into artificial intelligence and immersion in one of the world’s most dynamic deep tech ecosystems, in partnership with a leading Indian university.

Every year, aivancity organises this Learning Trip in partnership withthe International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B), as part of the MSc in Data Engineering & Artificial Intelligence programme.

Unlike a standard study trip, this programme includes modules taught by IIIT-B researchers: computer vision, natural language processing, generative and agent-based AI, fast algorithms and geospatial AI, interspersed with a mini-datathon that is assessed and concludes with a certificate ceremony.

In addition, there are visits to deep tech companies, an exploration of Indian public digital infrastructures such as MOSIP and Beckn, and a cultural immersion in Bangalore and Mysuru. All this is delivered in a format that combines academic rigour with an international outlook.

Why India

What the Indian ecosystem
teaches us about AI and scale

India is not just a demographic giant. It is a technological powerhouse with cutting-edge research, a dense deep-tech ecosystem and digital infrastructure that is unique in the world – something that can only be fully understood by experiencing it first-hand.

01
Bangalore, India’s Silicon Valley
An exceptional concentration of research laboratories, deep tech start-ups and R&D centres belonging to global corporations, all within a single metropolis.
02
World-leading academic research in AI
IIIT-B is a recognised centre of excellence in computer vision, NLP and applied AI, where students take courses directly with researchers.
03
Public digital infrastructure: a global model
Open platforms such as MOSIP and Beckn demonstrate how digital technology can scale to serve a billion users.
04
A dense deep-tech ecosystem
From robotics and machine vision to cybersecurity and data, the ecosystem covers the entire technology value chain.
05
Scale and diversity as a breeding ground for innovation
Designing for India means designing for a diversity of languages, uses and constraints, which drives the development of robust and frugal solutions.
06
Intercultural competence: a valued skill
Working with Indian researchers and students on a marked datathon develops an ability to collaborate internationally that can be directly applied in a business setting.
