Why now
AI isn’t just arriving in finance departments. It’s already there. And it affects, first and foremost, the activities that have historically made up entry-level professional experience: production, analysis, control, reporting, forecasting, and information processing.
This shift is already starting to change access to financial professions. Junior hiring is slowing in several functions, because the tasks traditionally assigned to beginners are precisely the ones AI and automation take on first.
In the United States, entry-level job postings in accounting and finance have declined by around 30 % since 2019, while several industry analyses estimate that 40 to 50 % of accounting tasks could be automated or heavily augmented by AI.
Generative AI can already analyze, synthesize, explain, and produce. AI agents go further: they can search for information, interact with systems, trigger actions, check a result, and chain several tasks together within a single process.
The professional’s value will no longer lie solely in producing information, but increasingly in the ability to:
AI automates part of the work. It increases the value of what remains deeply human. Financial professions aren’t disappearing: their center of gravity is shifting.
What the numbers say
of finance departments already use AI. Adoption rose from 37 % in 2023 to 59 % in 2025. Among the most common uses: knowledge management, accounts payable automation, and error and anomaly detection.
Gartner, AI in Finance Survey 2025
of Finance and Accounting professionals believe generative AI and AI agents could become standard tools in their profession within the next five years.
Deloitte, Center for Controllership, 2025
of employers plan to reduce headcount where AI will automate certain tasks. The WEF already ranks accountants and auditors among the professions expected to see falling headcount by 2030.
World Economic Forum, Future of Jobs Report 2025
of the skills currently used on the job are expected to be transformed or become obsolete by 2030. At the same time, AI and Data top the list of skills expected to see the fastest-growing demand.

The promise of the MSc
